Believing the potential of human possibilities,
uniquely yours

What are your intentions for this next year?  What type of person do you want to grow into?  Identifying
and visualizing intentions is an essential step to do before you set specific goals.  This practice is not only
part of age-old spiritual practices; it’s also a mainstay of the more recently popular “law of attraction”
concepts.  Identifying and visualizing your intentions will help you jump start, propel forward, and hurdle
over both foreseen and invisible barriers faster than you thought possible.

Think about 2-3 intentions that you would like to see come to fruition this year.  There are being-types
and doing-types of intentions.  Being: “I want to be more patient”.  Doing: “I would like to run in a race”.
Write down your most important intentions and follow this visualization model.  It may be helpful to find a
peaceful place for your visualization, e.g. not in a room with your kids running around.  Take a few deep
breaths before getting started.  Let’s say your chosen intentions for the next year are (1) to be a healthier
person, and (2) to be successful in your new project manager role at work.  Start by selecting one of your
intentions to imagine more fully.

Using “health” as the first example, picture in your mind a “healthy you”.  Once you have the image in
your mind, answer the following questions.  What do you notice that’s different about this positive, healthy
way of life?  What do you like about your new attitude, body, health, image, or lifestyle?  What else do
you observe?  Now imagine yourself being that ‘new’ person.  What’s your energy level?  What activities
do you enjoy doing?  What’s the best thing about being healthy?  Jot down your thoughts.

Do a similar exercise for your second intention: You want to be successful in your new project manager
position.  Take the time right now to imagine the end of your first project.  Visualize the celebration!  The
project is completed on-time and under budget.  Your customers are very happy.  What are your project
members saying to you?  What did they appreciate about your management of the project?  What do
your managers see in you?  Take time right now to create your final project presentation.  Fill in your 2-3
presentation pages.  Write down your project successes.

Imagining
who you are and what happens in a positive way helps to define and crystallize your
direction.  Plan to do a couple of visioning exercises to get really clear about your future desires.  Identify
and visualize intentions, outcomes, support… the whole picture, in a positive, successful, abundant way.
Don't rush past, or in and out of, being in this place of imagining, sensing, and experiencing. Allow your
creativity to bring forth all the great possibilities of your new, intended direction. Crystallizing intentions
also helps your intentions be rooted to your passions and purpose, and eases your way to that end.  When
you feel complete and happily saturated in your visualizations, only then start to take steps towards goal
setting.
